• Chapter Forms Updated

Dear Chapter Presidents:

It’s an exciting time of year! Time for elections, reflecting on what the chapter has done this year and looking forward to next year’s events.

Below you find the annual forms that have normally been mailed to chapters each fall. In order to reduce expenses, links to the annual forms are being sent electronically. If you would like a hard copies mailed to you, please let us know and we would be happy to do so

  • 2009 Chapter Achievement Award form
    The Chapters Department is looking forward to hearing back from your chapter about all the great things you did this year. This form is to be returned to the SDP office by February 15, 2010 in order to be eligible for the award.

  • 2010 Annual Chapter Form
    Election time is upon us, and we need the names of your officers for the new year. Be sure to get your chapter form, along with the annual chapter service fee of $30 plus an additional 10 cents per member (U.S. dollars only), to the SDP office by December 8, 2009. Even if you have no officer changes, the form must be completed and returned. Receipt of this form and service fee is a mandatory requirement in order to be eligible for the Chapter Achievement Award.

  • 2010 Membership Form
    Please be sure to pass this information on to the Newsletter Editor and Membership Chair of your chapter. It is important that the chapter is using the most current available copy of the form. Also, make copies for your events throughout the year. What better way to bring new people into your chapter than to invite them to become members of the Society of Decorative Painters!

  • Treasurer’s Year End Report
    This is now a required report. The report can be mailed along with the Chapter Achievement Award by February 15, 2010.

  • 2010 Chapter Liability Insurance Invoice
    Chapter liability insurance covers injuries or damages caused by a chapter or chapter members while conducting chapter activities. The 2010 liability insurance payment is due to the SDP office by December 8, 2009. Payment of the liability insurance is a mandatory requirement. These invoices will be mailed to the chapter treasurer.

IMPORTANT! IRS Filing Requirements! Remember, chapters risk losing their tax-exempt status if they do not file an annual report with the IRS. Chapters with gross annual receipts that are normally GREATER than $25,000 would still continue to file the 990 or 990-EZ. Chapters with gross annual receipts that are normally LESS than $25,000 will need to file the 990-N electronic notice. This will need to be completed between January 1 and May 15, 2010 for the 2009 year. For more information, please visit www.irs.gov/eo.

A New Quilt Fundraiser

In 2007-08 darling Santas and snowmen captured our fancy. We admired charming chirpers on the “Garden Bird Symphony” quilt in 2008-09. Now bountiful botanicals are the envy of all! "Flowers: From A to Z," the latest SDP Foundation fundraiser quilt is comprised of 26 botanical blocks, hand-painted by members of the 2009-10 SDP Board of Directors, past presidents, and beloved big brushes, including past presidents such as Ginger Edwards and such beloved “big brushes” as Mary Jo Leisure MDA, TDA and Louise Jackson MDA, TDA. Each block features a letter of the alphabet and a flower that starts with that letter.

Drawing tickets are a suggested donation of $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will take place Friday, May 21, 2010 at the Banquet at SDP’s 38th Annual Conference in Wichita with funds raised going to benefit the SDP Foundation. Recruiting Table Decorators

Banquet tables! Wow! There was nothing like seeing fifty banquet tables decorated for the Friday night banquet in Peoria. All of them were decorated with delightful and different themes and ideas from creative chapters and individuals. Please join us in this fun event by decorating a table. The theme this year is Paint, Rattle and Roll! You can use other ideas as inspiration, such as the area from which your chapter originates. Anyone can participate: individuals, chapters, teachers or exhibitors.

Marketplace Fun

Calling all chapters! Enrich your SDP Conference experience with a table at Chapters Marketplace. This is a great opportunity for your Chapter to earn some money at this fun-filled fundraising event. Remember, people do start shopping early for the holidays. I'm still giving out gifts from last year's Marketplace at Peoria! For a small fee of $20, you can reserve a table for Marketplace right now, it's never too early.

Fill out a check to SDP and send it to Elizabeth, Chapter's Coordinator, 393 McLean Blvd. Wichita, KS 67203. Then start painting small items to sell at your table. Cookbooks are a good seller, too. It’s fun and a great way to meet new friends. Sign up today

Chapters Gathering, It’s for Everyone!

Get ready to shake things up as we “Paint, Rattle, and Roll” at the Chapters Gathering. We are hard at work making the 2010 Gathering a very special event for you. Did you know that any SDP member can attend this event, even if you have no Chapter affiliation at this time? Please plan to join us for breakfast and a creative morning of fun, fellowship, and surprises. You will leave with new friends and lots of ideas to share with those unable to attend the Conference. • Royal & Langnickel Wants to Give Chapters a Kiss!

Royal & Langnickel Brushes loves every one of our chapters—big and small—and wants to thank them for their dedication and support. In order to encourage chapters to donate to the Society, they have created a challenge with rewards for chapters of all sizes. The three SDP chapters that donate the most money to the Society (in their size category) will be rewarded with a seminar conducted by the Royal Brush Artist Ambassador/Instructor of their choice! This includes instructor educational fees and instructor travel expenses. The deadline for this challenge has been extended to Dec. 31, 2009.

•Renew Before Dec. 1 and Save

Calling all Chapter members, the time to renew is NOW! Why? Well, if you wait until Dec. 1 you will have to pay an extra $5, (making your membership $45 instead of $40). Why is this $5 added? I’m glad you asked! Because the members’ list goes to our printer on Dec. 1 and if you’re not on it, we have to send your Decorative Painter manually and first class, instead of at bulk rate. This costs us an extra $5 for each late member. We charge you that extra, because we rather spend members’ dues on projects and the services you’ve come to expect from us. So save a little green. Renew today and avoid that extra $5!


• How to Deliver Your Paint for Freedom Cards

To protect the safety of our veterans, the Veterans Administration does not accept mail that is not addressed to a specific person. Do not mail your “Paint for Freedom” cards to a Veterans’ Hospital without a specific name in the address. If you have Internet, go to http://www.va.gov/ and click on the “Find a Facility” tab at the top of the page. You can then put in your zip code and the webpage will provide you with the five (5) closest facilities. When you click on the name of the nearest hospital, all the pertinent information, including phone numbers, will be returned. Call the hospital and ask to speak with the volunteer coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator can tell you how you can mail or deliver the cards directly to her for distribution. If you do not have Internet access, you can look up the Veterans Administration in the phone book.


 • Service Pins

Every chapter member loves to receive a charm for the hard work they have done throughout the year. Many chapters give these little charms as a thank you gift for the member. Now is the time to order the pins and charms in order to have them before the end of the year. Don’t delay. Order today! • Maureen Comes Back Home to the Heartland

We are delighted to welcome Maureen Calvert McNaughton CDA, TDA as the featured instructor for our next Home to the Heartland seminar to paint a strokework trio of botanicals. Join your fellow SDP artists February 25-28, 2010, at SDP Headquarters in Wichita, Kan.
